Hormones

Oestrogen

Oestrogen is mainly produced in the ovaries, but small amounts are also produced in the adrenal glands and is one of the two main sex hormones in women, with the other being progesterone.

Oestrogen has a role throughout the body and is a key hormone during puberty helping to bring about physical changes and the start of the menstrual cycle.

Progesterone

Progesterone is a steroid hormone produced by the body during ovulation. Its main role is to prepare a woman’s body for pregnancy.

Once ovulation has occurred, a small mass of cells called the corpus luteum forms at the location where the ovary released an egg. The corpus luteum starts to produce progesterone. The progesterone prepares the body for pregnancy. Under normal circumstances, progesterone levels peak on day 21 of the menstrual cycle.

Cortisol Hormone

Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is produced by your 2 adrenal glands, which sit on top of each kidney. When you are stressed, increased cortisol is released into your bloodstream. Having the right cortisol balance is essential for your health, and producing too much or too little cortisol can cause health problems.

Oxytocin Hormone

Oxytocin the hormone of Love is a natural hormone that manages key aspects of the female and male reproductive systems, including labor and delivery and lactation, as well as aspects of human behavior. Your hypothalamus makes oxytocin, but your posterior pituitary gland stores and releases it into your bloodstream.

Vesta’s Words

My guru received me and answered to my questions. He was emphasizing much to the fact that – “depending on ones genes”, this transition of life phase and its effects would vary from one lady to another. He reminded me, how Yoga was beneficial for everyone at every stage of life. He then named to me a series of asanas paryicularly appropriate for women’s reproductive organs.
